Unfinished blocks: How much sag could be expected?

Hello,

While I'd like to build this weekend, I doubt I'd have volunteers Sunday with the morning temp around -25C. Without help I don't think I could finish an 11' igloo this weekend though perhaps I could get the first 4 or 5 levels done, stopping before the walls start angling in.

With temperatures staying at -5C or colder, do you suppose the walls would sag enough to matter if left for as much as 6 days..? The new igloo wouldn't receive much sun either.

It will help if your temps stay cold for the week.
It will probably sag enough that the last five blocks or so should be removed and rebuilt. The entire igloo will sag more than it should and the pole will no longer be the right length. Shorten the top pole so the form fits right after removing the drooping blocks and then carry on with the numbered setting on the lower pole. It makes a shorter igloo but it seems to make a correctly shaped igloo when shortening the top pole.

Thanks. I had to do something similar when doing the 8.5 mutant.

In this case I wont do this deliberately; Id only do so as a last resort.

Ok, I may be a liar.

I can't help but think it may be worth my time to try to do the 1st level Friday night (forecast temp -2 for evening, -5C overnight) to save time on the weekend. I say this as I find the 1st level to be the most tedious and time consuming, and would give a great start to Saturday morning.

Do you suppose the 1st level of blocks would suffer at all overnight?

The walls shouldn't sag if just two layers are built, especially if you are going to finish the igloo within a couple days.
